When thinking about Scion, most consumers will automatically default to the FR-S model because of its more appealing exterior and race car feel. However, the 2014 Scion tC is putting up a fight for this year’s number one Scion seller. With its affordable price tag, the scion tC is still able to give you that high performance sports car feel.
Exterior and Safety
The new 2014 model is equipped with a more muscular look, both inside and out. The exterior has a more aggressive front fascia and a more sculpted, elongated hood. The longer hood allowed designers to add a new wide mouth lower grille. The NHTSA attributed the new body style in helping the Scion tC to achieve its 5 star overall safety rating. The 18” allow wheels are machine finished giving them a dark gray finish. Also new are the LED Accent lights and projector beam headlights allowing the driver to face any situation head on with confidence.
Perhaps the most enticing feature of the 2014 model is the available 6 speed automatic transmission with Dynamic Rev Management enabling the tC for a quick and smooth downshift while driving. This new technology also allows for a change in gears twice as quick as the 2013 model. Another point of interest is the improved weld points, stabilizer brackets and enhanced shock damping. These features all lead to impressive road handling, a smooth ride and reduced noise and vibration. According to the tests that Edmunds conducted the tC covered 0-60 miles per hour in a time slot of 7.3 seconds; surprisingly quick for a car of this class.
Updates for the interior include a roomier rear seat with a large amount of standard features and equipment. Standard in every new 2014 Scion tC is a touch screen display audio from pioneer. A quick upgrade and your display audio will include navigation, rear camera and accessibility to sites such as Yelp and Pandora. A panoramic sunroof, Bluetooth, HD Radio, iPod integration and height adjustable front seats are just a few of the features included in the base model. The gauge needles and speedometers were redesigned with racing in mind. You’ll feel like you’re behind the wheel at the start line when you start your engine and see those needles spike when you start your engine.
Among its competitors such as the Kia Forte, the Honda Civic, and the Volkswagen Beetle, the Scion tC is the ultimate pick for a fun and quick compact car. The Scion tC is a well-equipped yet affordable coupe that benefits from Toyota's attention to quality, durability and reliability.
