1924: Invention of the Model G Automatic Loom

The Toyota Motor Company was founded by a Japanese engineer named Sakichi Toyoda. In 1924, Sakichi Toyoda created the Model G Automatic Loom, which offered an efficient new method of weaving textiles. From this original invention came the roots of the Toyota Motor Company.

1933: The Toyota Automotive Department Founded

By 1933, Sakichi Toyota and his colleagues had begun research on new automotive technologies. In the early 1930s, Kiichiro Toyota developed a small engine that was powered on gasoline fuel. In 1937, the Toyota Motor Company was created.

1955: The Toyopet

The Toyopet was the first Toyota car to become available on the international market. The Toyopet was available in three models: the Toyopet Crown, Toyopet Master, and Crown Delux. This compact, efficient, and handsomely styled car became an instant hit with drivers around the globe.

1997: Global Launch of the Prius

Hybrid vehicle technology has been one of Toyota’s most innovative contributions to the automotive world. In 1977, Toyota launched the iconic Prius hybrid vehicle on the global market. This Toyota car has gone on to be the best selling Hybrid in the world.
